Any guesses on who said that quote? That one is dedicated to my dad who was the biggest John Wayne fan ever. The quote was from "In Harms Way" filmed in 1965. I met a war hero once during my days in the military. Not the typical hero who was serving our country and fighting for it, no disrespect to them, but a man who frequently was shot trying to save another man's life on a daily basis. Someone who fought in the Korean War, then in the Vietnam conflict and refused to be behind a desk. One of those guys who entered a room and needed no introduction of being a fierce SOB. He told a group of us what made the difference in his life was simply having a hero to focus on and look up to. His hero was John Wayne. The legacy John Wayne left changed many lives as one who never backed down from a fight, stood for his principles, and gave death the bird. Hero's are important in a young persons life. It's a guide for when you are alone and scared. Simply by asking yourself, what would ______ do? Oh yeah, he would chew bubble gum and kick butt, and he's fresh out of bubble gum. So, this ones for you dad. Hopefully in heaven drinking your cheap beer and living out your days riding off into the sunset with his good buddy, The Duke.
