Back to work

Good day all things considered as my first day back. It was also the first day back for the kids. Nate was tired when I picked him up from school, and it took some pushing by me to get him motivated to do our exercises and requirements before TKD classes tonight. We did some ladder drills tonight with Master Marcus at Sparring. It is awesome watching all the young adults and kids do the ladder drills. I do not have great rhythm but something I am working on. Luckily it appears that Nate inherited his rhythm from his mom and not me. I was very proud of him to do the ladder drills. I did pretty good, but lost the rhythm a few times and I have to work to get it back. But I do like working on them as they do help me with sparring. But it does amaze me to see everyone work through them. I also helped with the Family class tonight as well. I was working with some Blue and High-Blue belts, and working on poomsaes and self-defenses. As I have started to do more instructing, I really do try and explain "why" they are doing the movements, blocks, etc., especially for self-defense. I think for many of the younger kids, it is just learning the moves to pass testing, I am not sure they even realize that this could even really be used to defend yourself in a fight. Maybe they do, but it is hard to tell. I look at them and I wonder how they see all this Tae Kwon Do through those (hopefully) innocent eyes. I might take some time and even ask them about it during one of the classes. As I did not start martial arts until later in life, I really just wonder what their perspective is. Interesting. Keep moving!!!
