Sunday

Nate and I both did our Empathy training today. We decided to not speak for the day. We thought it would be a great challenge to do it at the same time. We spend a ton of time together and it really did pose many challenges... which I will be writing about in the essay. Here is a sneak peak to one item. We truly take verbal communication for granite. Until you cannot talk, you do not realize how effect that communication is. The item that is most challenging is getting people's attention. I did not realize how much I call for my wife or kids within the house. I found my self wanting to yell out for them, but instead I had to go physically find them to "signal" them and then either sign out what I need or write it down. It was hard and much more time consuming. I also found myself clapping or snapping to get Nate's attention, and I realized very quickly that gestures like that are a bit rude, but it was pretty effective. Sounds can even make a difference. I think this is the best challenge of the BB challenges as this really hits home on how lucky we all truly are to not have some of these disabilities. I thank God that myself, my wife, and children are all very healthy and active. It is the beautiful world and we need to enjoy it. Keep moving!!!
